If you're unable to locate an address using the AUTOPROP search bar, don't worry, this is a common occurrence. In many cases, the postal address differs from the property's civic address (which is what AUTOPROP uses), or you may only have the address of a rental or commercial unit rather than the building's official civic address.
This guide will show you how to use Google Maps Search within AUTOPROP to locate the correct property.
Example
Let's use Waves Coffee on West Broadway in Vancouver as an example.
According to Google Maps, the address is 1095 W Broadway. However, if you enter this address into AUTOPROP Search, no results may be returned.
Step 1: Switch to Google Maps Search
Instead of using the default AUTOPROP Search, click "AUTOPROP Search" next to the search bar and select Google Maps.
Step 2: Search for the Address
Enter the address you're looking for.
Google Maps Search can estimate locations and provide suggestions, even for addresses that may not exactly match property records.
Tip: After switching to Google Maps Search, you may need to press the Space Bar to trigger the address suggestions.
Step 3: Select the Correct Location
Choose the appropriate address from the list of suggestions.
AUTOPROP will place a pin on the map at the location Google Maps identifies for that address.
Step 4: Select the Property
Once the pin is displayed, right-click on the building or parcel to select the property.
You may find that the property's actual civic address differs slightly from the address you originally searched. In our example, the property is identified as 1093 W Broadway, even though the searched address was 1095 W Broadway.
Using Google Maps Search is often the quickest way to locate properties when postal addresses, unit addresses, or address estimates don't match the civic address stored in AUTOPROP.
